Pulled pork fundraiser
The New Cumberland Lions Club will host a pulled pork fundraiser on May 28 in front of the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or as long as food lasts. The pulled pork sandwich alone will be $7. Sides offered will be potato salad and baked beans at $1 each. Drinks will be available for $1.
Beaver Creek Wildlife Center
The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will host the following programs in June
Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. - Build a Birdhouse. Each session is limited to 12 participants and registration is required. Send contact information to beavercreekw@aol.com. Kids ages 7 and older and their adults can join Beaver Creek Wildlife Center volunteers under the pavilion and build their own bird house. All supplies have been provided by the Salem Home Depot.
Saturday, June 18 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. - Nature Craft - Painting with Leaves. Kids and their adults can join Carolyn and other BCWEC volunteers under the pavilion and create a beautiful picture using artificial leaves. All supplies will be provided. Wear painting clothes.
Saturday, June 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. - SCAVENGER HUNT on Logan's Loop Trail. Kids and their adults can take a fun short hike on Logan's Loop trail, located behind the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, and try to find all the animals on the scavenger hunt list. When the hunt is completed, families will receive a booklet about the animals they found on the trail. Adults can pick up the scavenger hunt paper, a pencil, and a clip board under the pavilion. The hike is .6 miles long and has a couple steeper areas. Participants should wear sturdy shoes. This event will be canceled in case of bad weather.
Saturday, June 25 from noon to 4 p.m. - 20th Anniversary Party. Activities include: free refreshments while supplies last, raffle items, fun activities for kids, displays of Ohio animals, a geology display and fossil hunt, a program by the Ohio School of Falconry from 2 to 3 p.m., and tours of the Wildlife Education Center.
Saturday, June 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. - Ohio School of Falconry. During the 20th Anniversary Party, the School of Falconry will be set up in front yard of the Wildlife Education Center. They will demonstrate how the birds fly and capture their food and talk about each bird. At the end of the program, nine names will be drawn from those attending the program (must be at least 9 years old to do this). Those people will be able to have one of the birds fly to their arm.
Sunday, June 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. - Information on Honeybees. Local beekeeper George Stacy will be at the Wildlife Education Center all afternoon in the live animal room to talk about honeybees and pollination. He will answer questions from our visitors regarding the live honeybee display and about honeybees in general.
Water and wastewater assistance
The Ohio Department of Development and the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, Inc. will help income-eligible Ohioans with water and wastewater assistance. The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying water and wastewater bills. The program runs through Sept. 30. At this time, all application interviews are being held at the agency, 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon. Applicants must currently be disconnected, have a disconnect notice, establishing new service, or transferring service. Clients must be a resident of Columbiana County. Applicants will be required to provide the following documents: a list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member over age 18; most recent water and/or wastewater bill; proof of citizenship or legal residency; birth date and social security numbers for all household members; and proof of disability, if applicable. Percentage of Income Payment Plan
The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County (CAA) will be taking applications for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP plus) at the Lisbon office, 7860 Lincole Place (rear). Appointments can be made by calling 330-424-4013. All appointments will be face-to-face appointments for energy assistance at this location. All applications during this time will be completed at the agency. Applications can be scheduled through the agency by calling 330-424-4013. The customer will be scheduled appointment time. The customer will be required to provide the required documents to the agency to complete the application as soon as possible. If all required documents are not provided, the application cannot be completed. Any information provided by customers will be retained and may be shared with the utility companies. Veterans appreciation dinner
East Liverpool Elks Lodge 258 Veterans committee will host a veterans appreciation steak/chicken salad dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the lodge, 620 Broadway. Veterans eat for free with all others for a donation.
