Former EL cop seeks protection order against former supervisor
LISBON — Christopher Green, the former East Liverpool police officer, K-9 handler and school resource officer, has filed a civil stalking protection order request against one of his fellow police officers in Common Pleas Court.
According to court documents, Green is asking for protection from his former supervisor Capt. Chad Tatgenhorst, claiming the other East Liverpool officer has made his “life a living hell” starting in 2018. In documents filed with the courts, Green claims he has received some text messages he deemed threatening from Tatgenhorst. Additionally, Green accuses Tatgenhorst of spreading lies about him and his K-9, which caused him severe mental stress.
“In documents that can be provided Chad has gone out of his way to bully and harass me since 2018 until current date,” Green wrote.
Green testified before Common Pleas Court Magistrate Lynsey Lyle-Opalenik on Wednesday about his request stating that after not hearing from Tatgenhorst for somewhere between a year and 18 months, he received a series of texts including several emojis depicting a woman’s anatomy, as well as single letters that he believed were a coded threat telling him to “watch your back.”
Although he did not know the cell phone number the text message came from, Green reportedly checked with others, who said it came from Tatgenhorst’s number. However, Green said when he responded to the message asking who it was, the person responded it was sent to the wrong number.
At this point, Lyle-Opalenik has ruled Green failed to show he was in imminent danger from Tatgenhorst. The matter is set for a full hearing before the magistrate at 9 a.m., Nov. 24, when Tatgenhorst also will get a chance to respond to the allegations Green is making.
Green was placed on paid administrative leave from the department on March 12 and was terminated from the department in late June after a 21-page investigation was completed involving Green, including documented instances of dishonesty. The matter may still be in arbitration.
Green reportedly has made allegations against Tatgenhorst within the department in the past, which at the time police Chief John Lane had determined to be unfounded.
Green indicated to the magistrate that his termination from the department remains in arbitration.
