LISBON -- Summer certainly isn't over, but CAA's Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers are looking ahead and planning for area children who will be heading back to the classrooms within the month.
In celebration of National Health Center Week, which is Aug. 8-14, CAA's Centers are planning to host the annual Back-To-School Drive-Through from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 12 in the upper circle area near the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County's Administrative Building, 7880 Lincole Place.
"This event is all about reaching out to our patients and our communities by offering some school supplies, while building knowledge of CAA's Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers, and National Health Center Week, too," said Jenna Wonner, CAA's COO. "This is an annual celebration with the goal of raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of our health centers over the past five decades."
The event is being held in the early evening to allow working parents to take part.
"Once again this year we are happy to be able to provide some school supplies for area children and help parents get an early start on their school supplies lists," said Jody Wisbith, Marketing Specialist for CAA's Health, Behavioral Health and Dental centers. "No one will have to get out of their vehicles, and all parents have to do is drive to the designated area and receive the supplies."
Some other area agencies will participate in handing out back-to-school items, including CAA's Head Start and Columbiana County Child Support. CAA's Community Services, CARTS and administrative agencies also are taking part by donating supplies in each drawstring bag being distributed.
"And this year Paramount Advantage and UnitedHealthcare have donated items and funding for our event, which is great," Wisbith said.
A total of 300 school bags will be distributed. Once supplies run out, the event will end.
National Health Center Week is the creation of the National Association of Community Health Centers, and the week has been celebrated for more than 30 years.
The CAA Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers also will celebrate during National Health Center Week by honoring their patients and employees with special events, and through a donation from employees to CAA's Community Services Food Pantry.
