LISBON -- Two more Columbiana County Sheriff's Office deputies were honored Friday for their heroic actions.

Deputy Luke Skidmore received the Life Saving Award while Deputy Brian Deack was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. Both awards were given by Sheriff Brian McLaughlin through the Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association awards program.

During a ceremony in the Sheriff's offices in the courthouse, McLaughlin detailed the actions of both men that led to the honors being awarded.

The Distinguished Service Medal is awarded for "exceptionally meritorious conduct involving exemplary courage, great risk and danger to the sheriff's office employee's personal safety." Deack on Jan. 3, 2021, responded to where a vehicle crashed into a home. Although the house was threatening to collapse, Deack went in to help the two people inside, helping one person out and clearing debris out of the way for the EMS employees.

On Feb. 9, 2021, Skidmore recognized someone was having a medical emergency, a heart attack, inside a vehicle on state Route 45 and rendered assistance to them.

Both deputies will have a new enamel bar to wear on their uniforms for their actions. The Life Saving Award is a lime green and white bar, while the Distinguished Service Medal is a white enamel bar with a five-point star attached.
