LISBON -- The highway patrol is investigating three fatal crashes that occurred on county roads within a 24-hour period.
A 34-year-old Wellsville man, Tress Wiley, was killed in a single-car accident shortly after midnight Monday on Osbourne Road in Madison Township.
Earlier Sunday night, 24-year-old Elijah Kaufman of Rogers was killed in an ATV rollover crash on Bye Road in Middleton Township.
On Monday afternoon, a 59-year-old truck driver from Pennsylvania, Darrell Young, was killed in a crash on state Route 39 in Yellow Creek Township.
Wiley was driving a 2002 Acura RSX westbound on Osbourne between Crews and Fife Coal roads when he traveled off the left side of road and struck an embankment which caused his vehicle to overturn. The vehicle struck a fence and re-entered the roadway before traveling off the right side of the road before coming to rest.
Wiley was ejected as a result of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
The patrol was assisted at the scene by West Point Fire and EMS and the county coroner's office.
Kaufman was killed when he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his 2020 Polaris side by side ATV, traveling off the road and striking a utility pole before rolling down an embankment. Kaufman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the patrol, alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash and it remains under investigation at this time.
Assisting on the scene was Negley Fire and EMS.
In the latest crash, Young, of Clover, Pa., was driving his rig westbound on Route 39 near Boyd Road when he lost control on a curve, traveling off the left side of the road, striking a guardrail and overturning down an embankment. The 2007 Western Star semi-truck is owned by the McNelis Trucking Co. WKBN First News reported the truck was hauling sand.
Young was not wearing his safety belt, the patrol said. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the fatality.
Firefighters from the Highlandtown and Wellsville departments along with personnel from the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
