SALINEVILLE -- The Salineville Fire Department urges residents to adhere to the statewide spring open burn ban that goes into effect every day from March until May from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At Monday night's council meeting, Mayor Linda Adams told council that the fire department has been receiving reports of residents burning garbage -- which is banned year-round under Ohio law--and they want to remind residents to refrain from open burns during that 12-hour window. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency also advises that burns do not take place on windy days and encourages people to find other ways to dispose of items rather than burning which can emit toxic fumes.
In more business, council voted Monday not to participate in this year's county chip and seal program and they plan on using the money saved for patching. Adams said she has received several complaints about potholes throughout the village and she plans to put a list together and have them worked on when the street department has the time. She told council that several potholes have already been filled and more will follow.
In other matters, Adams told council that Southern Local will be applying for the annual beautification grant from the county Land Reutilization Corp. to "spruce up" the area around village hall and the park.
Adams also wanted to remind anyone interested in the vacant village council position that they must be registered to vote in Salineville and they need to have been a resident in the village for at least a year.
