LISBON -- Students at David Anderson High School have been given the all clear to start a field research project on the historic Sandy and Beaver Canal in Willow Grove Park.
During Tuesday's village council meeting, Councilwoman Dawn Thomas said a state grant will be funding these projects for all of the schools along the 73-mile long canal in Ohio. A STEM teacher from DAHS contacted Thomas to get permission to begin the project, and Thomas brought it before council where it was approved unanimously. Students will be collecting and studying soil samples from along the bank of the canal and will begin the project this spring.
In other business, council members discussed conducting a resident survey. Mayor Peter Wilson said council members and the park committee would like to have input from village residents on matters such as whether or not the swimming pool should be repaired or filled. Councilman Ryan Berg said a survey would allow the pool and parks Committee to have insight into how the residents are feeling about the future of the village pool.
"There's a pretty vocal section of town that leans one way or the other -- either the pool needs to be reopened and it's a service that we absolutely have to offer, or they say it's time to fill it in. This would just be a way to actually put it to the people and find out what everyone's thinking," he said.
During the meeting council also approved the hiring of one part-time dispatcher for the police department and accepted the resignations from part-time police officer Micah Campbell and part-time dispatcher Angela Milburn.
Council also discussed updated brochures for the village to make sure they're accurate according to recent business closures and openings.
