Greenwood receives ‘God and Service’ award

NEW CUMBERLAND — Rick Greenwood was presented the highest religious award given to adults in scouting: the “God and Service” Award. Bill Littell, on behalf of the Christian Church of New Cumberland, presented the award to Rick Greenwood by an online presentation and with his daughters formally presenting the award to Rick.

Those receiving the God and Service award must be active in promoting both God and Scouts for at least 10 years. Other requirements include:

1. Promotion of God in Scouting,

2. Extraordinary service in the nominee’s congregation,

3. Outstanding service in promoting, organizing and participating in Boy Scouts of America,

4. Outstanding performance in Boy Scouts, a performance that is characterized by Responsibility, Humility and Christian example.

Rick has served in numerous positions in the Christian Church, ranging from High School Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the Elders, Elder, Deacon and Christian Endeavor sponsor for high school. He also serves on various committees of the church.

Rick Greenwood has been active in scouting for 56 years and has been a scoutmaster for 42 years. Rick has been extremely active in his Church, The Christian Church in New Cumberland, WV. Rick throughout his life has been a strong supporter of Scouting.

It is with great honors that Bill Littell (by proxy of his daughters, Marsha Ford and Duska White) presented “The God and Service Award” to Rick Greenwood. Bill Littell, who is a recent recipient of the same award, was Rick’s Cubmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster.

There also was a video presentation made by the Eagle Scouts of Rick’s Troop saying thanks for all he did to shape their lives. John Briscoe also made a compilation of the Eagle Scouts saying the Scout Oath and Law. It was quite moving video presentation.

Present at the ceremony from the Scout Office in Wheeling: Dan Bettison (Ohio River Valley Council executive), Lori Abraham (Council Registrar) and Cecilia Einloth (Council Office Manager).

It is such an honor to recognize Rick Greenwood’s service to God and his service to Scouting.
