Liverpool Twp. donates 20 laptops to LaCroft Elementary

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The CARES Act remains a tremendous undertaking for communities like Liverpool Township, where they are doing their best to spend the money by year's end on behalf of their citizenry.

Money not spent has to be returned, so municipalities are doing their best to utilize it as best they can.

During Monday night's meeting via Zoom, Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati confirmed the township still has around $21,900 left without counting around $1,400 for consultant services and payroll still to be paid.

However, during their action, trustees did approve payments totaling $187,128,98, which included a large reimbursement to Trustee Mike Bahen.

As his board colleague Keith Burke pointed out, Bahen is the township's COVID point person and had paid out in excess of $10,000 for 20 laptops on behalf of the township for LaCroft Elementary School, which is located across the street from the administration building.

Trustees also approved a series of resolutions that increased appropriations for this year for a variety of reasons, ranging from COVID reimbursement to replacement of lost checks.

Bahen reported in Police Chief Jayson Jackson's absence that the new cruiser arrived and is in the process of having the sirens and detailing installed.

The topic of Spring Grove Cemetery came up, as the man who is currently contracted to dig graves and maintain the township's portion reported that his backhoe is currently down. Bahen said that perhaps trustees need a backup plan in case the man cannot supply the services that we paid for. In addition to bidding the service out again, trustees also discussed getting custody of the books back if Bahen doesn't hear back in around a week or so.

Before adjourning after the half hour meeting, trustees set their next meeting to be held via zoom at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28 with their re-organizational meeting for 2021 to follow.

Starting at /week.
