LISBON -- Columbiana County Coroner Dr. George Scott Wilson pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges during an arraignment hearing Thursday morning in county Municipal Court.
Wilson, 49, was charged Tuesday morning after Salem police were called to his home on Jennings Avenue and the woman there alleged he punched her in the face. The officer observed black and blue bruising around the woman's right eye. When asked about this, Wilson denied hitting her and stated she was lying. The report stated both were "highly intoxicated."
After Wilson entered his plea, Judge Tim McNicol scheduled a pretrial hearing for March 1. Bond was continued at $5,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim, Kelli Winter. Wilson is being represented by attorney Chris Amato, who was not present at the arraignment hearing.
The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor offense, which carries a maximum possible sentence of six months in the county jail and $1,000 fine.
Following the hearing, Wilson declined comment.
He was elected last month to a second four-year term as county coroner after facing no opposition.
