Deadline to pay city income tax approaches

EAST LIVERPOOL — July 15 is the deadline to file your city income tax return for East Liverpool residents.

Due to COVID guidelines, city Tax Commissioner Linda Harpold said the following protocol has to be observed: masks have to be worn, no children whenever possible and people must stand on the floor apart as designated when coming to their offices.

Filers can still fax their returns to 330-386-7865 or email ELtaxdept@gmail.com, including W2s, 1099s and the first two pages of their federal 1040 returns.

All submissions must be postmarked by July 14, she added.

Failure to file the return is a separate criminal charge than failure to pay. So even if you owe a resident cannot pay at this time, Harpold urges them to still file their returns and make payment arrangements on the amount due to avoid the extra criminal count.

All city residents age 18 and older are required to file until they reach age 65.

Penalties start July 16.

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

To pay taxes via credit card, phone 1-800-272-9829 and select option 3. (East Liverpool 8458) and follow the prompts. There is a $1.50 charge for phone payments.

Additional information can be reached by calling the office at 330-385-5437.

Those persons wanting contactless access to forms can either pick up the doors by the side city hall doors during business hours or download them at eastliverpool.com.

One also can pay tax bills online via credit card at www.officialpayments.com after choosing East Liverpool under the OHIO drop box for LOCAL PAYMENTS. The cost will range between $1 and $3.95 depending on how much paid.

Non-Sufficient Funds fees will cost $45.95 total both to the tax office and bank.
