NEWELL W.Va. --A man was air-lifted after a one-vehicle accident on Sixth Street in Newell. Hancock County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Art Watson reported a 2008 Dodge Charger had flipped onto its roof leaving the driver trapped inside around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The accident is still under investigation and the sheriff's department is waiting on a report. Watson suspects the accident was a result of slippery roads, but the cause will not be known until the investigation is complete. The Department of Highway was asked to spread salt on the road after the incident.

Watson said he does not know the severity or number of injuries, nor does he know if the driver is still hospitalized. Watson did report the driver's left arm was severely injured after being trapped under the vehicle. The accident was reported by a bystander.

The sheriff's department was assisted by the Newell and Chester volunteer fire departments, Hancock County Ambulance Services and Chaney's Auto Repair and Towing.
