EAST LIVERPOOL -- Among personnel issues approved Monday by the East Liverpool city school board was an updated job description for the head custodian for athletic fields, buildings and grounds.
While many aspects of the job description remained the same, the board approved several additional qualifications now required compared to the original description, which only required the custodian to be of sufficient strength and health to perform all functions, be a U.S. citizen fluent and literate in the English language, competent in the skills needed for the job.
New qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; maintaining a license in application of pesticides and herbicides; comprehensive knowledge of horticulture, landscaping, safety and environmental regulations; ability to operate and maintain grounds-keeping equipment; meeting legal requirements of BCI and FBI background checks; basic knowledge of athletic equipment and its care; CPR and AED certification; and more.
The new description also includes additional duties and eliminates references to East Campus, which, located in the East End of the city, is no longer in use by the district, having been traded to the city in exchange for property.
Personnel appointments approved included that of Jenna Renner as science fair coordinator at a salary of $418; season game workers Margaret Myers and Michelle Smith, $30 per game; volunteer boys' soccer coach Keith Kosek; and Heather Barnhouse, 3.5-hour cafeteria worker, $12.04 per hour.
A request by Principal Jonathan Ludwig to create a Drug Free Club at the high school was approved for the 2018-19 school year.
Membership renewal in the Ohio High School Athletic Association was approved for the 2018-19 school year.
Comp Management was approved at the treasurer's recommendation for Workers' Compensation services for fiscal year 2018-19.
The board also agreed to pay the cost of rooms for those fifth- and sixth-grade students who will be participating in the state science fair in Columbus.
