Wellsville man dies following accident at Wal-Mart Distribution Center
WINTERSVILLE – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reported Nick Desarro, 25, of Wellsville died Friday as a result of an accident at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.
The sheriff’s department reported Desarro fell out of a forklift and suffered a fractured skull and jaw. He was taken to Trinity Medical Center West, where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s department reported.
The sheriff’s department said the incident happened around 9:25 a.m. Friday but the sheriff’s department wasn’t notified until around 11 a.m.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said Desarro was standing up in the forklift when he fell onto boxes. His feet were still inside the forklift, Abdalla said. The sheriff said there was a small puddle of blood inside the forklift, leading Abdalla to suspect that maybe Desarro suffered a medical issue.
The sheriff said an autopsy will be conducted that may provide some answers as to what happened.
Abdalla said the boxes should have cushioned the fall, but the sheriff said it is not known if Desarro hit a metal object when he fell out
Sheriff’s deputies interviewed workers at the distribution center.
Abdalla said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be coming to the distribution center on Monday to begin its investigation.
Desarro had been employed at the distribution center for only two weeks, the sheriff said.
