Scouts of America Troop 2012 celebrates achievement, advancement and leadership at Court of Honor

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Scouts, families, leaders and supporters gathered Monday evening at the East Liverpool Community Center for a special Scouts of America Troop 2012 Court of Honor, celebrating a year of achievement, service, leadership and advancement.

Troop 2012, chartered by Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, currently includes 27 active Scouts and 20 adult leaders. The Court of Honor provided an opportunity to recognize the hard work of Scouts who continue to develop leadership skills, serve their community and progress through the Scouting program.

The troop has plenty to celebrate. Collectively, its Scouts have earned an impressive 241 merit badges and 21 rank advancements.

Several members are also making significant progress toward Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Scouting program. Jimmy Conrad is pending his Eagle Board of Review, while Shawn Conrad and Logan Cornell are completing Eagle Scout paperwork. Mason Beebout has an Eagle Scout project pending.

Seven additional Life Scouts -- Brandon Armstrong, Rylee Miller, Evan Myers, Michael Palmer, Logen Reinhardt, Declan Smith and Robert Weber -- are currently planning their paths toward Eagle Scout.

The evening's ceremony highlighted the important role Scouts themselves play in leading Troop 2012. Senior Patrol Leader Logan Cornell welcomed those in attendance and joined Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Declan Smith in leading the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Ryder Stevenson, Chaplain Aide, offered the invocation and benediction.

Scouts Mason Beebout, Shawn Conrad, Andrew Dalton, Logen Reinhardt and RJ Weber served as the Color Guard, while Jimmy Conrad and Michael Palmer led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Scoutmaster Mike McGown offered remarks during the awards program, with Advancement Chair and Assistant Scoutmaster Billie Conrad presenting awards and recognitions.

The Court of Honor also recognized the tremendous network of adult volunteers who make Troop 2012 possible, including Scoutmaster Mike McGown, Assistant Scoutmasters Billie Conrad and Shelby Allison, Committee Chair Eber Grimes and the troop's many leaders, committee members and volunteers.

Special appreciation was extended to Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, the troop's chartered organization, for its continued support of Scouting and local youth.

Troop 2012's current membership includes Scouts at various stages of advancement, including five Star Scouts, eight Tenderfoot Scouts and three Scouts at the Scout rank. The troop's continued growth and advancement reflects the commitment of its Scouts, families and volunteer leadership.

The Aug. 31 Court of Honor was held at the Community Center, 110 Maine Blvd. in East Liverpool, and concluded with a social gathering for Scouts, families and guests.

Through merit badges, outdoor experiences, community service and youth-led leadership opportunities, Troop 2012 continues to provide young people with experiences designed to build character, confidence, citizenship and lifelong leadership skills.
