Michael Charles McGown honored with Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award

EAST LIVERPOOL-- A lifetime of service, leadership, and dedication to Scouting was celebrated Sept. 12 as Michael Charles McGownwas honored during a Daniel Carter Beard Award Ceremonyat East Liverpool Lodge #681.

The Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award recognizes Master Masons who have demonstrated outstanding service to young people through the Scouting program and who exemplify the shared values of character, leadership, citizenship, and service.

McGown's connection to Scouting spans more than four decades. He was initiated into the Order of the Arrow in 1982and earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout on March 1, 1984. His commitment to Scouting continued into adulthood, including years of leadership with Troop 2012, where he served as Assistant Scoutmaster from 2012 to 2018and has served as Scoutmaster since 2018.

As part of the 2026 recognition, McGown also passed to the Order of the Arrow rank of Brotherhood, another milestone in a Scouting journey built around service to others.

McGown's service extends to Freemasonry as a member of East Liverpool Lodge #681. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on March 10, 1998, passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft on March 24, 1998, and was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on June 9, 1998.

Family, friends, fellow Masons, Scouts, and Scouting leaders gathered for Saturday's ceremony and dinner to recognize McGown and the impact his decades of service have had on generations of young people.

The honor reflects a remarkable journey from a young Scout earning Eagle Scout more than 42 years ago to an adult leader now helping guide the next generation along that same path.
