Fidelis Gamma enjoys a Fraternity Education ‘Rap’

WEIRTON -- The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Eat 'n Park in Weirton Sept. 3, with 15 members present.

Co-President Carolyn Allison called the meeting to order and gave the welcome. Co- President Ruth Fuller lit the Memory candle. Chaplain Elaine McClung led the pledge of allegiance, shared an inspirational reading, gave a prayer and blessing for the meal.

Allison and Fuller shared information on the Leadership Conference at Summersville Arena and Conference Center in Summersville, W.Va., on Aug. 8.

Fuller presented information on the Chapter Needs Assessment which are goals the chapter has set for the biennium. Recording Secretary Patty Ferris read the August minutes. Treasurer Susan Cullinan gave the financial report, and Corresponding Secretary Eileen Snyder gave a report on cards sent to members.

Alpha Delta Kappa Month will be celebrated in October, so ADK Chairman Shirley Washam presented her plans for the event. Each member is requested to bring to the next meeting a bag with an item beginning with an A or D or K to share with the group.

Altruistic Chairman Ferris gave a report on member volunteer hours, monetary donations, and non-monetary donations. Membership Chairman Cullinan gave information on membership and community projects. Publicity Chairman Fuller reported that articles are sent to four papers and an online site. She thanked the members for collecting the articles.

Fraternity Education Chairman Nancy Conley led the group in a "Founders' Day Rap" which refreshed the chapter memories of the founders history. She gave additional information on the Vision, Mission, and Purpose of the organization.

Fuller reminded members that the next two months -- October and November -- the chapter will be meeting at noon at DeeJays Restaurant, 380 Three Springs Drive in Weirton.

Fidelis Gamma will host the Ohio Valley District Meeting on Oct. 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1016 Ridge Avenue, New Cumberland. Allison and Fuller continued plans for the event by filling duties with member volunteers.

Under New Business, Allison and Cullinan discussed the distribution of dues, and the chapter accepted the presentation.

Fuller presented information on the achievement award checklist, "PEARLS."

September Birthdays are Donna Roman-7, Patty Ferris-17, and Bonnie Queses-20.

Allison thanked the hostesses, Ferris, Donna Durkin, and Shirely Washam for the table and decorations. The hostesses for October are McClung, Liz Pugh and Lola Bender.

The meeting was adjourned with singing "The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa."
