Local Civil War history takes center stage in upcoming East Liverpool lecture
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Local history enthusiasts and Civil War buffs are invited to a free presentation by noted local historian Timothy Brookes on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
The lecture will shine a spotlight on the life of Jacob Shenkel, an East Liverpool resident who answered the call of duty during the American Civil War by enlisting in the Pennsylvania 62nd Infantry.
Brookes brings a unique passion to the subject, possessing a lifelong fascination with the Civil War that began at just 5 years old. With decades of research, Brookes has specialized in uncovering the individual stories and surviving photographs of common soldiers, with a primary focus on those who hailed from Columbiana County.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the local impact of the Civil War through the experiences of a neighborhood soldier. Registration is not required, but early arrival is recommended to secure seating.
