WEIRTON - The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Eat 'n Park Restaurant in Weirton Aug. 6 with Co- Presidents Ruth Fuller and Carolyn Allison officiating. There were 15 members in attendance. Fuller gave the welcome and Allison lit the memory candle.
Chaplain Elaine McClung led the members in the pledge, an inspirational reading, prayer and a blessing for the meal.
Member Shirley Washam updated the group on the Southeast Region Conference through a report.
Allison and Fuller gave an update on the "Officers Executive 2026 report." During this meeting, they shared the plans for the first year of the biennium, reviewed officer duties, shared the motto, spoke about the new computer program "Connect," explained the planned folders, reviewed awards such as the "Pearls" and "Violet" awards and dues and discussed the Ohio Valley District Meeting.
Allison and Fuller will attend the Leadership Conference at Summersville Arena and Conference Center in Summersville, W.Va. A report will be given at the September meeting.
Recording Secretary Patty Ferris gave the minutes for the June meeting, which passed with no changes.
Allison gave the treasurer's report in the absence of Susan Cullinan, and Corresponding Secretary Eileen Snyder gave a report on the cards and letters given and received.
ADK Month chairman Shirley Washam had no report. Altruistic Chairman Patty Ferris gave a report on volunteer hours, monetary and non-monetary hours. By-Laws/Policy Chairmen Donna Durkin and Crystal Baranowski did not have a report. Under publicity, Fuller shared that four newspapers are publishing the club's articles, and she thanked those collecting the articles.
Fraternity Education Chairmen Bonnie Queses and Nancy Conley presented a reading correlating a "Snickers Bar" to the Fidelis Gamma Chapter.
There was no unfinished business, Allison discussed the new folders and motto for the biennium, and Fuller introduced the contents inside the folders, asking members to bring the folder to each meeting.
Discussion was held on a new venue for the club's meeting area for October and November. A motion was made and seconded.
Fuller and Allison informed the members that they will be responsible for the Ohio Valley District Meeting on Oct. 24 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Cumberland, W.Va., for a "Salad Plus Luncheon." There will be five districts invited along with state officers.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the members of their biennium duties and expectations.
In addition to table decorations, members were asked to "Share a Memory." Each member brought an antique to place on the table and share the history of the item/ items with the members.
August birthdays were shared: Nancy Deters, Donna Durkin, Elaine McClung and Nancy Holdsworth.
The next meeting will be Sept. 3, and hostesses for the September meeting will be Donna Durkin and Patty Ferris and Shirley Washam.
The meeting was adjourned with the singing of "The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa."
