Falconry event rescheduled due to storms
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Ohio School of Falconry event at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center has been canceled due to storms predicted for Sunday. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Sean Posey to present program at the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame will welcome Sean Posey as a featured speaker on Monday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m.
Posey is the author of three acclaimed books published by Arcadia Publishing in which he explores the people and events that shaped the Mahoning Valley. This program will focus on the Youngstown organized crime network and its ties to East Liverpool and the surrounding area. Through Posey's engaging presentation, audience members will have the opportunity to build on the interest that was developed during the city's community read program that centered on the book, 'The Last Hitman" by Robin Yokum.
This program is part of the museum's speaker series which brings historians, authors and educators to the museum to explore the rich history of the Upper Ohio Valley. Posey makes the past engaging and accessible to audiences of all ages and his presentations combine thorough research with compelling storytelling.
This program is open to the public. Admission is free although donations to support the museum's educational programs are always appreciated.

Tickets for SRMC Gala featuring Dave Dravecky available Aug. 3
SALEM -- Tickets are on sale starting Monday for Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) 2026 Gala featuring Dave Dravecky. The Gala will be held Friday, Nov. 6, at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield.
A Youngstown native and former All-Star left-handed pitcher for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, Dravecky was at the height of his baseball career in 1988 when he was diagnosed with cancer in his pitching arm. Despite being told it was highly unlikely he would ever pitch again, Dravecky defied the odds by returning to the mound the following year to pitch a 4-3 win in his first start.
However, just five days later, Dravecky's arm tragically broke during a pitch. The injury and a recurrence of cancer eventually led to the amputation of his left arm and shoulder, ending his baseball career.
Since retiring from baseball, Dravecky has gone on to inspire countless others as a renowned motivational speaker and author.
"Dave's journey from the peak of his Major League career through his battle with cancer is truly extraordinary," said Amy Reed, SRMC Director of Development. "We are honored to welcome him as our keynote speaker at this year's Gala to share his incredible story of hope and resilience."
