CCPA and Columbiana County Health District to host educational session on understanding potable water testing results

COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana County Port Authority (CCPA), in partnership with the Columbiana County Health District (CCHD), will host an educational session to help residents better understand the results of laboratory testing conducted through the Expanded Potable Water Sampling Program.
The session will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Best Western Dutch Haus Inn, 150 East state Route 14, Columbiana.
The presentation is designed to provide participants with a better understanding of what their potable water laboratory results mean and how to interpret the information included on a laboratory analytical report.
Topics will include:
-- An overview of the Expanded Potable Water Sampling Program and its purpose;
-- An explanation of Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) and their significance;
-- The analytical parameters tested through the program and why those parameters are included;
-- A step-by-step review of an example laboratory analytical report, including common acronyms, reporting limits and other technical information;
-- How the Columbiana County Health District reviews laboratory data and assures the quality of sampling and analytical results;
-- What happens when a contaminant is detected above an applicable MCL, including follow-up testing and monitoring;
-- Confidentiality and availability of sampling results; and
-- An open question-and-answer discussion with program representatives.
The session will be presented in an accessible format intended for residents who may not have a technical or scientific background. Following the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the program.
The session may also include demonstrations and additional resources to help residents understand the sampling process and access information related to their private wells.
The Expanded Potable Water Sampling Program is a collaborative effort between the Columbiana County Port Authority and the Columbiana County Health District designed to expand access to potable water testing and provide residents with information about the quality of their private well water.
Residents who have participated in the program, are interested in participating in future sampling opportunities, or simply want to learn more about private well water testing are encouraged to attend.
