EAST LIVERPOOL -- Kent State University at East Liverpool is planning a community event to honor the service and sacrifice of first responders, while remembering the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The Never Forget - Community Remembrance will take place Sept. 10 on the East Liverpool Campus from 4 to 7 p.m. The day will include displays of local emergency vehicles, free refreshments, interactive demonstrations, information tables, family-friendly activities and an American Red Cross blood drive. First responders will be recognized and receive remembrance pins.
While details of the day's activities are still being planned, organizers invite local businesses, nonprofit organizations and community groups to participate by individually hosting a space for an activity, demonstration or display. The Friends of Kent State East Liverpool are helping sponsor the event by providing food and beverages for that day.
"It was 25 years ago that our nation came under attack and our ways of life changed forever," noted Brad Bielski, Ph.D., dean and chief administrative officer at Kent State East Liverpool. "During those dark days that followed Sept. 11, 2001, we witnessed heroic efforts by first responders and everyday citizens who stepped up to help without hesitation. In honor of all who served and sacrificed - as well as those who continue to serve - our campus offers its sincere appreciation. This event will be an opportunity for the community to remember, reflect and give thanks with one voice."
