LISBON — Hoppel’s Championship Rodeo will celebrate the USA’s 250th anniversary with Veterans’ Night on Friday and fireworks on July 4 as part of the annual rodeo sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and the American Professional Rodeo Association (APRA).

Veterans who served or are currently serving will receive free admission with proper ID on Friday, with the fireworks following the rodeo on Saturday, July 4.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with the rodeo starting at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gate tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children, with 3 and under free. Presale tickets for all are $15 and available at the following locations: eventbrite.com, Heritage Country Store in Lisbon, participating Giant Eagles, Wellsville Save-A-Lot and East Palestine Sparkle.

“For more than four decades, this event has delivered a true rodeo experience rooted in tradition, drawing loyal crowds from across the tri-state area and beyond. Known for its authenticity, Hoppel’s Championship Rodeo continues to stand apart by staying true to the grit, skill, and heritage that define the sport,” a press release said.

Hoppel’s Arena, 40891 state Route 518, Lisbon, is “one of the few permanent outdoor rodeo facilities in the eastern United States, built with solid, concrete pipe construction and designed with both athlete and livestock safety in mind. Set in a scenic valley, the arena features a natural-grass amphitheater where spectators view the action from a hillside surrounding the arena. This layout creates an immersive experience that brings the feel of a traditional Western rodeo to life.”

There are no bleachers, so bring chairs and blankets.

A full rodeo featuring all eight events, Hoppel’s Championship Rodeo “brings together top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls from more than 18 states and Canada, along with powerful animal athletes, all competing for championship points and prize money. From bull riding and saddle bronc to fast-paced barrel racing and timed events, every performance delivers high-level competition in a setting built for the sport.”

“We’re bringing the spirit of the American West to Ohio for this historic celebration,” said the Hoppel family. “There’s no better way to celebrate than with a professional rodeo under the stars followed by a fireworks show lighting up the valley sky.”

The family-friendly event features lots of food vendors and western merchandise for purchase. During intermission, kids can take part in the crowd-favorite calf scramble.
