Final screening of Brier Hill planned at The CAT

The Columbiana Arts Theater (The CAT) will host the final screening of the acclaimed regional film Brier Hill at 6 p.m. Saturday. This special finale event will feature a guest speaker following the screening along with a special announcement. Based on the novel by Jimmy Taaffe, Brier Hill tells the story of Benny and Taffy, two lifelong residents of Youngstown’s historic Brier Hill neighborhood. Set during a turbulent era marked by organized crime and corruption, the film follows the couple as they navigate desperation, vengeance, and survival in a world forever changed by their choices. The film is rated PG-13.

Taylor Abbott to present lecture on The Sinking of the Scioto

In conjunction with the America250 Celebration in downtown East Liverpool, the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame is inviting the public to attend a historical lecture by Taylor Abbott on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m.. The presentation will explore the Sinking of the Scioto, a Fourth of July river disaster that left over 50 people from East Liverpool dead. Abbott, the co-founder and president of the Ohio Valley River Museum will share his research into this tragic incident and provide other historical insights into river transportation. The lecture will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of regional river history and the lasting impact of steamboat disasters on local communities. The program is open to the public and admission to the event is free but donations are greatly appreciated. Lepper Library to host events in June

LISBON – Lepper Library will host the following upcoming events:

Writer’s Group: 2 p.m. June 6. Join fellow writers to discuss topics such as writing, publishing and grammar. To receive constructive critiques, submit five pages a week in advance to dolly@lepperlibrary.org. Writer’s Group is made possiblein part by state tax dollars given by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio Communities culturally, educationally and economically.

Dino Activities: 10:30 a.m. to noon. Drop in and get a start on some DINO fun before the Summer Reading Program begins. Make some dinosaur crafts and color a large dinosaur poster.

Summer Reading Kickoff: 11 a.m. June 8. Join in on all the fun of the Summer Reading Program’s Unearth a Story. Get registered and explore the world of dinosaurs at the available stations: Decorate a canvas bag, use tools to excavate a Dino Egg, Dig for Dinosaurs, and Plant a Flower.
