EAST LIVERPOOL – East Liverpool High School’s Culture Club recently traveled to Pittsburgh for a full day of hands-on learning, giving students the opportunity to explore science, art, culture, and entrepreneurship beyond the classroom.

The trip began at the National Aviary of Pittsburgh, where students experienced one of the nation’s only independent indoor aviaries. Home to more than 500 birds from around the world, the visit allowed students to explore biodiversity, conservation efforts, and ecosystems in an engaging, real-world setting.

Students also made a colorful stop at Randyland, a vibrant public art installation created by artist Randy Gilson. The visit highlighted the importance of creativity, self-expression, and the impact of community-driven art.

For lunch, the group visited Federal Galley, a unique food hall that supports emerging chefs and entrepreneurs. This experience introduced students to culinary arts, small business development, and the innovation shaping Pittsburgh’s growing food scene.

In the afternoon, students toured the Carnegie Museum of Art and Carnegie Museum of Natural History, where they explored world-class exhibits spanning art, history, dinosaurs, and environmental science. The visit connected classroom learning to real-world applications through inquiry-based exploration.

The day concluded with dinner at Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen in Station Square, where students experienced regional cuisine while learning how food, history, and community intersect in an urban environment.

“This trip provided our students with meaningful, real-world learning opportunities across multiple disciplines,” said school representatives. “Experiences like these help bring classroom concepts to life and broaden students’ perspectives.”

East Liverpool City Schools extends its appreciation to Andy Miller, Sunny Wilhelm and Megan Hernandez for chaperoning and supporting students throughout the trip.

The district also thanks Tickets for Kids Charities for their partnership in helping make this enriching experience possible.

From science and conservation to art, entrepreneurship, and cultural exploration, the ELHS Culture Club’s trip to Pittsburgh showcased the power of learning beyond the classroom.
