Four teams earned qualification to compete in the Ohio VEX IQ Elementary School Robotics State Championship, which will take place March 2-3 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.
East Liverpool will be well represented at the state level, with three teams advancing. The Wacky Potters and The Gremlins captured the Teamwork Challenge Championship, posting a winning score of 99. Another East Liverpool team, The Chubby Racoons, secured a place at the state championship by winning the Excellence Award, recognizing the best overall team performance.
Columbiana’s Birb Gang also secured a place at the state championship after receiving the Design Award for their outstanding engineering design process.
This season’s VEX IQ challenge required teams to build and place stacks using Pins and Beams. Teams earned points by connecting multiple pieces, incorporating different colors within each stack, and matching stack colors to designated goals. Additional pins were introduced to the field by drive team members through the Load Zone, adding both strategy and complexity to the matches.
