Eddie Murphy guest speaker at retired teachers meeting

LISBON – The September meeting of the Columbiana County Retired Teachers’ Association was held at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. Nancy Dicken conducted the roll call, led the pledge and offered the invocation.

Two new members were welcomed: Kathy Vrabel and Donna Fonner.

Gayle Noel introduced the guest speaker, Eddie Murphy. After living in Southern California for 47 years and working in the corporate world at Hughes Aircraft and then UCLA, Murphy returned to Wellsville where she was born. Dressed in costume, Murphy walked through the life story of Harriet Tubman, from escaping slavery on her own to helping free slaves using the Underground Railroad. She is one of the most well-known “conductors.” Harriet Tubman escaped to “free” soil in Pennsylvania in 1849.

The 50/50 was won by Karen Moore and Lisa Wycoff was chosen as the winner of the free meal for October.

The next CCRTA meeting will be held on Oct. 16 at noon at the same location.

Starting at $2.99/week.
