WELLSVILLE –For the second time in the school year, a number of Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School students have their poetry published in a book.
In February, it was announced that 28 students were selected from their participation in a national student writing contest, Creative Communications, to have their work published in a book along with students from other schools across the country.
Seventh and eighth-grade English and Film Studies teacher Brandy Peterson, announced that 35 students have been selected for the spring publication of the book. Some of the students selected also were chosen for the previous edition.
Peterson noted that in both books Wellsville is listed as a Poetic Achievement Honor School, meaning that more than 50% of the students who submitted poetry were selected for publication in the books.
“These students have worked diligently throughout the school year. As a result, two students have won a combined amount of roughly $1,000 for their Democracy essays via The Patriot’s Pen VFW writing competition,” Peterson said.
