SALINEVILLE — Southern Local High School senior Jacob Junkins has been named the Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for May.

Junkins, the son of Becky Junkins of Hanoverton, has demonstrated excellent academic performance at Southern Local by earning a 4.37 GPA and ranking fifth in his class.

He has been a member of FFA for four years, earning the Greenhand, Chapter and State degrees. Junkins also been a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club for two years each and has been included on the All A Honor Roll throughout his entire high school career. He will have earned 46 College Credit Plus credits upon graduation, plus he gained an ACT score of 30.

Junkins has also excelled in bowling over the last two years by receiving the 2023-24 Tomahawk Award and the 2024-25 Coaches Award.

Upon graduation, he plans to attend Youngstown State University to major in civil engineering. He has received the YSU Freshman Excellence President’s Scholarship, YSU Sokolov Honors College, YSU Choose Ohio First, Cowboy Up Youth Rodeo and Negley Masonic Lodge scholarships, all totaling $45,200.
