April events at the Wellsville Carnegie Public Library

The following events are coming up in April at the Wellsville Carnegie Public Library, located at 115 9th St.:

Cutest Pet Photo Contest

The Wellsville Library will be having its annual Cutest Pet Photo Contest. Now through Saturday, April 5, patrons of the library can submit one photo of their cat or their dog. Photos can either be submitted in person at the library or through Facebook Messenger. Photo needs to include the name of the pet, the name of the person submitting the photo, and their phone number. Voting takes place inside the Wellsville Library from Monday, April 7, through Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. The cat and the dog with the most votes wins the prize basket for their pet and can be picked up at the Wellsville Library.

UFO Presentation

The Wellsville Library will also be welcoming back guest presenter Fred Saluga to discuss UFOs: Fact, Fiction, or Myth. The program will discuss different aspects of UFO Phenomenon including U.S. Airforce Identification chart, historical UFO incidents, FBI Report on UFOs from 1947, and more. Retired Fayette County Chief of Police Saluga is the current State Director for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) in West Virgina and the Assistant State Director of MUFON in Pennsylvania. The program will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 6 p.m. The program is free to the public. Register by calling 330-532-1526 as seating is limited.

Camp in a Box

Starting Tuesday, March 25 from 4 to 5 p.m., the library will be having the next five-week session of Camp in a Box. The theme of this Camp is Engineering Your Future. This camp will help students to explore real life careers like engineering, computer technology, and manufacturing. Camps include books or videos and hands-on experiments. The program is free to kids in Kindergarten and up. Register at 330-532-1526.

STEAM Kit Wednesdays

The Wellsville Library currently has on loan a STEAM Kit from Northeast Ohio Regional Library System. The kit includes the Robo Wunderkind, 3Doodler Start+, Ozobot Evo, Root, LittleBits Gizmos & Gadgets, and a Sphero BOLT. Kids can come in to experiment and try out the available technology on Wednesday, March 26, and Wednesday, April 3, from 4 to 5 p.m. Call 330-532-1526 to register.

Hiking

The Wampum Chapter Hiking Committee has planned hikes on April 5, 19, 22, and a road cleanup project April 5 at 9 a.m. Spring Clean Hike 1.5 miles Wampum, Pa. The group will meet at the Wampum Train Station and divide into teams to tackle the trail from River Road to Sankey Hill – roughly 1.5 mile sections. No skill needed, just a love for the trail. After the work is done there will be lunch back at the station. Work includes removing small obstructions and documenting the location of larger ones for later volunteer action.

Hells Hollow Challenge Hike, 11 a.m., April 19; 7 miles Portersville, Pa. Hells Hollow is a challenging 7-mile out and back hike with about 1,400 feet of ascents along part of the Slippery Rock Gorge (NCT) trail. On the return trip, participants can choose to take a short and easy diversion near the trail head to experience Hells Hollow Falls. After the hike participants are welcome to join and unwind together at Ben Franklin’s Taproom and Grill which is eight minutes away on state Route 422.

Earth Day Hike, 5 p.m., April 22; 6 miles East Liverpool. The group will hike the NCT Vondergreen trail from the Gretchen Lock parking area to Pioneer Village and back. This is a 6-mile moderate hike. The pace will be around 3 mph. Bring plenty of water, and wear proper hiking shoes. Trekking poles are optional and often helpful.
