Conservation, wildlife program
This year Columbiana SWCD has partnered with Carroll SWCD, Mahoning SWCD, and the Ohio Division of Wildlife to put together the first event in a series known as the Conservation Wildlife Habitat Days (CWHD). This series will move throughout the partnering counties and showcase many different wildlife and forestry related conservation practices. The event will cover topics on food plots for wildlife, warm season grass plantings, edge feathering, tree plantings, and invasive species control. Landowners will then be able to take these conservation practices home and apply them to their own properties. These field days will also discuss different cost-share programs that landowners may be able to utilize. Participants will explore conservation programs, such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), that may be available to help landowners implement these practices. To begin this series, Highlandtown Wildlife Area in Columbiana County will host the initial field day on June 29. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a break at noon for lunch. This event will cost $15 which will cover lunch as well as provided materials. Payment can be made in the form of cash or checks mailed to or dropped off at the Columbiana SWCD office located at 1834-B S. Lincoln Ave., Salem, Ohio 44460. Amateur nature photo contest
The Columbiana County Park District will host an amateur nature photo contest. Photos should be taken at The Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, Scenic Vista Park or Hellbender Bluff Park. Nature photos from other locations in Columbiana County will be considered. Photographers should identify their photo location, name and phone number on the back. Photos need to be 5- by 7-inch or 8- by 10-inch without frames or glass. Photos must be the original work of the photographer. A panel of judges will award prizes for first, second and third place. Photos will be displayed at the park district's booth during the Columbiana County Fair. Photographers may enter more than one photo. Photos will be accepted until June 28 at the park office during business hours.
Second annual Community Day
The West Point Lions Club will host its second annual Community Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Columbiana County Airport, 15606 County Airport Road, East Liverpool. The family event will feature food, music, vendors, children's games, 50/50 drawing, raffles, car show, crafts, and fire, EMS and police vehicles. Ice Cream-Strawberry Festival
Bethel Presbyterian Church on Steubenville Pike, Salinville, will hold its annual Ice Cream- Strawberry Festival June 8 From 4:30 to 6 p.m. The menu includes sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, strawberries, assorted desserts, and Baker's Ice Cream. The church is handicapped accessible. The meal is by donation.
Tops 1957
Tops 1957 from Wellsville met on May 21 at the Living Well Church with leader Mary Jarvis opening the with pledges, roll call and then Mary Schmidt leading the group in prayer.
Tops best loser was Gladys Buzzard and Barb Tranter wore the officers ribbon. Connie Hissam had three weeks weight loss and the dimes will be carried over.
Barb Q won the 50/50 drawing.
A donation was given to Peggy Kiddy's family.
Schmidt won the calorie chart drawing but she donated it back.
June 4 there will be no meeting due to Bible School being held at the church.
Tranter read a funny joke and the Jarvis closed the meeting wishing all a good week.
