Hancock County Health Board
The Hancock County Commission will be accepting names of any interested parties that wish to serve on the Hancock County Health Board. Interested parties must reside in Clay or Grant District and be a Republican, Democrat, or have no political affiliation. Interested parties are to submit a letter of intent containing the applicant's name, address, phone number and interest in applying for the position to the Hancock County Commission Office, P.O. Box 485, New Cumberland, West Virginia 26047, or by email at commission@hancockwv.org.
Tomlinson Public Service District Board
The Hancock County Commission will be accepting names of interested parties to serve on the Tomlinson Public Service District Board. Applicants must live within the Tomlinson Public Service District. Interested parties are to submit a letter of intent containing the applicant's name, address, phone number and interest in applying for the position to the Hancock County Commission Office by June 7. Applicants can send their application to the Hancock County Commission office by mail at P.O. Box 485, New Cumberland, West Virginia 26047, or by email at commission@hancockwv.org.
Collecting used eyeglasses
CALCUTTA - The Calcutta Lions Club collects used eyeglasses here in Calcutta as part of the global mission of Lions Clubs International to combat blindness. In just about any home, people can find an old pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life.
Throughout the year, clubs in Ohio collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to sorting sites like VOSH Ohio in Pandora, Ohio. The eyeglasses are cleaned, sorted by size and prescription strength, and then packaged for use on mission trips around the world.
Calcutta Lions Club member Tim Coalmer recently refurbished the three recycling bins in Calcutta and they are located at Giant Eagle, Lee Eye Care Center and Dr. Detwiler's office. People are encouraged to drop off their used eyeglasses to one of the bins.
