West Virginia’s Young Writers Contest winners

A dozen students enrolled at AT Allison Elementary School in Chester won West Virginia's Young Writers Contest at their classroom level. For the past 40 years, the contest celebrates grade 1-12 students' deep commitment to writing across all subject and its publication. Teachers and administrations in each county are encouraged students to submit writing first at the school level.
There are maximum set word lengths based on the entrant's grade level. While a first grader cannot exceed 300 words, the maximum for a high school senior is 1,200 words. The two school winners then advance the county level, where they are judged for Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Fluency and Conventions. Qualifying entries then are considered for cash prizes at WV Young Writers Day in May.
