WEIRTON — Following the Hancock County Executive Committee meeting, the Hancock County Democratic Women held their monthly meeting at 6 p.m., with President Alesia Brogdon calling the meeting to order and welcoming those in attendance.

It was noted that the Pledge of Allegiance was already said by Chair Kathy Link of the executive committee.

The secretary’s report was read and approved and the treasurer’s report will be filed for audit.

Brogdon announced her appointed committees. They are as follows: Pam Allison, Membership; Teresa McCombs, Publicity: Historian/Scrapbook, Gina Cross volunteered for this position and was approved by unanimous consent; Brogdon will telephone the members to remind them of the scheduled meeting; McCombs is in charge of the By-Laws when needed.

Brogdon advised the members that member Mary Kay Angelo passed away suddenly, and a card should be send to the family expressing the group’s sympathies, which was approved by unanimous consent.

Membership dues of $10 will be collected starting in February. Members can pay Allison, membership chair.

The Hancock County Democratic Women are looking for a Democratic Headquarters and several businesses have been approached, however, no confirmations have been made.

Tara Shepherd of the Community Bread Basket was the guest speaker for the meeting. She spoke about the new grant that is being given to the Community Bread Basket and the excitement about providing fresh produce for the people that use their services. She feels this is a game changer for the community and people that have need for food items. The grant is provided for food items only and must be used by June 2024. Personal use items are in need, as well as hats, gloves and clothes. Volunteers are needed and an open house is in the works for March. New families that apply to the Community Bread Basket must have an ID and those without a driver’s license can use a voter registration card as an ID.

Shepherdaccepted a donation that club collected in December and Gina Cross took a picture to document the occasion.

NEW BUSINESS: Brogdon visited the Day Care Center run by Tiffany Gale. Gale and her husband joined the club and the members look forward to meeting her next month.

Kathy Link was talking to the election office and the filing deadline was Jan. 27. The WV Vice Chair, Teresa Toriseva is running for Attorney General. It was explained that the WV GOP would be voting on Jan. 27 on closing their elections to exclude independent voters.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. at B4 Bar and Grill, 1801 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton.

All Democratic women are welcome to join. Dues are $10 and are due when joining. The meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at B4 Burgers, Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton.
