NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County Community Educational Outreach Service met Wednesday, Feb. 7.
President Becky Wiegers opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and devotions. The secretary's report by Wendy Backus was read and approved. Treasurer Janet Keller's report was also approved.
Virginia Lawrence, Health Motivator, reported the club had earned 135 points of participation in last year's health program, and provided handouts to the members.
Purposeful Reading Chairman Dinah Carpenter provided reading numbers as sent to the state reading committee, and noted that Hancock County CEOS volunteers had, collectively, read 814 books in 2023.
Sue Isner, Continuing Education chair and WVU Hancock County program assistant, is offering a monthly card making class at the Hancock County Senior Services Center, and will offer a free Healthy Meals for Two class, at the center, on March 21, at 1 p.m. She also led this month's lesson about the town of Beverly, W.Va. Having lived in that area, she was able to give a wonderful "tour" of the little town with a huge history.
The rest of the meeting was devoted to continuing plans to host the CEOS Morgantown Area meeting on May 4. The caterer's menu was discussed and decided upon, plans were made for breakfast offerings and goody bags, and Wiegers reported she was successful in engaging local author Fred Miller as speaker for the event.
The next regular meeting will be held Wednesday, March 6, at the Hanoock County Senior Services Center on Gas Valley Road at 11 a.m. The lesson will be "The Bloom Room: Floral Design Basics."
