Proceeds from the Hungry Bowls fundraising event Nov. 16 were presented recently to three charities that operate food pantries for those in need. Hungry Bowl sponsors Raymond Wayne, Heritage Thermal Services, left, and Daniel Winston, United Way board president, right, presented checks of $2,025 each to: Major Stephanie Larrick, East Liverpool Salvation Army; Denise Taylor, Community Resource Center of East Liverpool; and Joe McKarns, Family & Community Services of Columbiana County. Hungry Bowls is a unique event that creates a soup-kitchen environment to raise awareness about food insecurity in the community. In its first two years, the event has generated more than $14,000 for the United Way food pantries along with donations of hundreds of pounds of non-perishable food.
