CCRTA hosts Michelle Roberts as guest speaker

The Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association met recently at the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Guest speaker was Michelle Roberts, director of the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center in East Liverpool. Established 25 years ago, it serves as a “Memory Place” for locals. By providing the accomplishments of area people, Roberts hopes that the public will see, “They achieved this and you can, too!” The community is welcome to volunteer for an array of activities – both for the young and adults. The Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association recently met at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. Nancy Dicken welcomed members and led them in the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. Lunch was served by the women of the church.

Jerry Barnes conducted the business meeting with the minutes and treasurer's reports approved. He gave an update on the STRS Pension Defense Fund.

The program was provided by Michelle Roberts, a retired teacher from Beaver Local. She is now director of the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center in East Liverpool. Roberts explained that there are over 100 displays representing those from the area who have excelled in a variety of fields such as Coach Lou Holtz, Will Thompson, Hans Hacker and Drew Joyce, coach to LeBron James. There is a model train display a recreated 1950s diner and much more.

Suzi Less won the 50/50 raffle. Sherri Seachrist won the free meal at the next luncheon meeting which will be held Thursday, Nov. 16 at noon at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church.
