Wreaths Across America in NC
On Dec. 16 at cemeteries across the United States and in several foreign countries, volunteers will gather to lay fresh balsam wreaths on the graves of veterans. The goal of the Wreaths Across America program is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom. What began years ago in Arlington National Cemetery has now spread to thousands of cemeteries worldwide. New Cumberland Cemetery has been a member of this program for several years and will continue the tradition this year. Those who would like to purchase a wreath to be placed on a veteran's grave can pick up an order form at the city building or call George Hines at 304-670-7092. The cost for each wreath is $17. The committee hopes to surpass last year's total in order to decorate as many of the over 500 veterans' graves in the cemetery as possible. For information about the program, visit Wreaths Across America.org.
