EAST LIVERPOOL -- Rev. Jon M. Coventry has been named the new priest-in-charge at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He began his duties July 1 and officiates at the St. Stephen's weekend Holy Eucharist Liturgy each Saturday at 4 p.m.

Established in 1834, St. Stephen's is thought to be the oldest church congregation in East Liverpool. A brick structure replaced the original wood frame church, and the brick church was subsequently destroyed in a fire in 1899. The following year, the existing stone church building was built. It was dedicated Dec. 26, 1900.

Coventry keeps Wednesday office hours at the church. He is excited to offer pastoral visits in private homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities and more. He said, "I'm looking forward to being involved in civic and community activities here. I'm very impressed with the history of the city." He has already visited the Museum of Ceramics, the Upper Ohio Valley Museum at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame, and other local landmarks.

A native of Dennison, Ohio, Coventry recently moved to Alliance, where he also serves as the priest at Trinity Episcopal Church there. He is single and one of seven siblings, all of whom reside with their families in the Tuscarawas County area.

Coventry is a graduate of Ohio Dominican University and Walsh University. After having worked as a licensed clinical counselor for 20 years, he retired from practice in December 2022. He completed seminary course work at the Bexley-Seabury Seminary and the Chicago Theological Seminary and was ordained a priest in January 2022. He served his pastoral internship at the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church in Akron, where he was ordained a deacon in June 2021.

Coventry can be reached at the church office (330-385-3828) or via his church cellphone (234-517-9065). He welcomes appointments with St. Stephen's parishioners and others in the community.
