Southern Columbiana County chamber changes name to River Valley Chamber of Commerce

EAST LIVERPOOL - Progress occurs when courageous, business, political and community leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better through partnerships, prosperity and progress. This was the prevailing theme at the Southern Columbiana County Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Banquet March 25 at the recently renovated Masonic Temple in East Liverpool.
The evening was a demonstration of many exciting "firsts" and changes. Most importantly, the event served as testimony to the ability, willingness and power of people to respond, take charge and mold their own destiny in positive ways that can better effect change to benefit themselves and others, whether they live and work in Ohio, West Virginia or Pennsylvania.
While the momentum for change is very compelling, SCCRCC also recognizes the challenges of change are rarely easy or convenient, when it announced the formation of the River Valley Chamber of Commerce. The newly elected Board of Officers and Directors are President Marcus Trelaine, Vice Presidents Darlene Kinsey and Dawn Gerz, Secretary Becky Tolson and directors Troy Chisom, Heather Dornon, Amy Faulk, Holly Good, Cathy Grafton, Scott Shepherd, Raymond Wayne and Dan Wolfe.
To better communicate the message of change, the reasoning for establishing a new chamber was explained to accomplish two key purposes. First, to eliminate the perception of a chamber focus limited primarily to Southern Columbiana County by creating a comprehensive inclusiveness of economic prosperity throughout the tri-state region. And second, to adopt a fresh strategy that maximizes the collective livelihood and lifestyle strengths that may better capitalize on the changing economic and demographic business environments, not just within the surrounding communities but across the nation.
It was with great appreciation the outgoing board of SCCRCC and the incoming directors of the River Valley Chamber of Commerce recognized the valuable sponsorship of Hancock County Savings Bank, East Liverpool City Hospital and Consumers National Bank. The success of the annual banquet was due in great part through their combined generosity to help defer the evening's expenses. More importantly, the actions of Consumers National Bank, East Liverpool City Hospital, Hancock County Savings Bank, True North, and Heritage Thermal Services are further recognized for the value of their prevailing attitudes toward excellence and the determination to help guide and provide for others.
To conclude the evening, keynote speaker and famed author and columnist Fred Miller presented the power of change through linguistic and cultural perspectives in his program "What is a Hoopie?" Audience participation would suggest a certain familiarity with the concept with many earning a doorknob for their knowledge including one person with the awareness that those little striped furballs of lightning aren't chipmunks named Chip or Dale, but Grinny!
