Pet Photos with The Easter Bunny
The Hancock County Humane Foundation will present Pet Photos with The Easter Bunny from noon to 5 p.m. April 1 at America's Wholesale Outlet, Weirton Shopping Plaza. All proceeds benefit homeless animals.
Mona McArtor Scholarship
Beaver Local, Lisbon, Salem, Sebring and West Branch are among area districts where high school students are eligible to apply for the annual Mona McArtor Scholarship given out by the Salem Quota Club. The $500 college scholarship is awarded to high school graduates pursuing a career in the speech/audiology or deaf education field. For information call Susan Jackson at 330-257-5420.
Newview CEOS to host Dinah Carpenter
The Newview CEOS volunteers will host Dinah Carpenter who will present a lesson on the history of Point Pleasant, W.Va., covering the legendary Mothman, the battle designated by Congress as the first battle of the American Revolution, Chief Cornstalk's dying curse on the area, the Silver Bridge disaster, and more. The meeting will be held April 5 at Hancock County Senior Services on Gas Valley Road. It will begin at noon, following the Senior Center's featured lunch of Sloppy Joes accompanied by macaroni salad and fruit at 11 a.m. There is no charge to attend the presentation, but those who want to join the club for lunch as well, the normal Senior Center fee of $6 will apply. The Community Educational Outreach Service is a WVU Extension-supported membership organization open to the public with a focus on member education and community service. Second Chance Book Nook overstock sale
The Second Chance Book Nook, 135 W. 5th St., East Liverpool, will hold an overstock sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 9a.m.-5 p.m. April 1. Hardbacks will be $1, softbacks 50 cents, and BOGO on children's, sci-fi, cookbooks and more.
EL church yard sale
First Free Methodist Church, 16260 St. Clair Ave., East Liverpool, will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1. For information call 330-843-2129.
TOPS 1341
Tops 1341 met at the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church Monday with Darlene Naukem, leader, presiding.
Darla Varney was the best loser. The drawing winners were: 50/50 Cathy Wollam, calorie chart Naukem, weight loss Varney, junk food Judy McComas. The jackpot was forfeited due to absence.
Varney was three times in the best losers book and also now holds the travel box. All members will be eligible for the check contest next week.
Marlene Reynolds presented a program from AARP entitled "Eight Habits that will Raise your Blood Pressure." Reynolds also led the members in exercising with "Warm Up to Spring" taken from the recent Tops magazine. Varney will present the program at the meeting next week.
The meeting opened with pledges and concerns and closed with the The Lord's Prayer.
The meetings are held on Mondays (excluding holidays) at the church. Prospective members may call 330-424-5027 for further information.
TOPS 1957
Tops 1957 from Wellsville met March 14 at the Living Well Church with leader Donna Lee opening the meeting with pledges and roll call. Barb Q. led the group in prayer.
Tops best loser was Barb M. and Gladys Buzzard and Barb M. wore the officer's ribbon. Mary Jarvis won the calorie chart drawing and the dimes will be carried over. Jami Spring won the 50/50 drawing.
Jarvis passed out the new picture game envelope and next week members are to lose a quarter pound and the biggest loser next week will get two puzzle pieces.
The No-no is potato chips.
Barb M. gave the treasurer's report and Brenda Young read the minutes. Both were approved as read.
Barb Tranter read a funny story and then Lee closed the meeting wishing all a good week.
