Alpha Tau Chapter
The Alpha Tau chapter (W.Va.) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators held its April meeting via Zoom. President Diane Bowers called the meeting to order.
Treasurer Fran Jones gave the Thought for the Day, a reading from "Walking in Grace." Roll call was taken and minutes were approved as read. Jones gave the financial report. Correspondence included information regarding the International Convention and the selection of delegates. Committee reports were also given.
Member Ginger Greene discussed updates to the chapter bylaws and Bowers reported that the altruistic report was submitted to the state altruistic chairman.
The chapter scholarship was presented to Andrew Coursin, son of member Amy Hannahs. A senior at Brooke High School, Andrew plans to attend Fairmont State College and major in Exercise Physiology.
Delegates for the International Convention will be Bowers and Velda Icard. The door prize was given to Fran Jones.
An in-person meeting is planned for May. Projects will include an auction for Cystic Fibrosis and donations for The Lighthouse.
Museum of Ceramics new mural
Two weeks of art themed activities will be held to celebrate the unveiling of the Museum of Ceramics' new mural painted by Christopher Leeper. The 32-foot-long mural commemorates the history of the area's pottery industry and is a gift to MoC from the artists group, the Lady Slippers. The mural will be mounted on the wall and rail of the lot behind the museum (facing Broadway). Everyone is invited to attend the ceremonial unveiling on May 22 at 11:00 am.
At 7:00 pm on the evening of the 22nd, a "pop-up" style party will be held in the parking lot This casual, birthday party will include music, birthday cake and soft drinks. Attendees are encouraged to bring additional snacks and beverages.
On May 15, the museum will host the Ohio Plein Air Society. The artists will spend the day painting in the city. At the end of their workday, approximately 3:00 pm, they will sell their creations at the museum. What a great opportunity to buy a work of art that depicts East Liverpool.
Two art exhibitions will be held from May 17 until May 28. Christopher Leeper's work will be displayed in the museum and will be available during all open hours and on May 20 and May 27 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Local Connections is an invited art show featuring Betsy Babb, Nancy Hawkins and Barrie Archer. It will be held in the Venture Real Estate Building on Broadway. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12:30 to 3:30 and May 20 and May 27, 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Tops 1957
Tops 1957 of Wellsville met April 20 at the Living Well Church with leader Connie Hissam opening the meeting with pledges and roll call. Mary Schmidt led the group in prayer.
Hissam was the Tops best loser and she also wore the officers ribbon. The dimes will be carried over until next week.
The No-no for the week is all bread.
Donna Lee gave the treasurer's report and Barb Tranter took the minutes. Both were approved as read.
Tranter shared some funny stories.
Hissam closed the meeting wishing all a good week.
Tops 1341
Tops Ohio 1341 met at the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church April 18 with leader Dorothy Garn presiding. Cassie Ensinger was best loser and Darla Varney was runner-up.
Garn read the most recent news letters from Tops area coordinator Dianne Herbert and Tops area advocate Kerry Schneider. A discussion followed. Judy McComas will present the program next week.
New members are welcome. Anyone who wishes to become a member can call 330-424-5027 or contact any known member.
The meetings are held every Monday with weigh-in from 1:15 to 2 p.m. and the meeting follows from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Social distancing and masks are required as recommended by Ohio state guidelines.
Living Well with a free dinner
The Living Well Church, 403 17th St., Wellsville, will hold a free community dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 30. The menu: barbecued pork steaks, baked beans, baked mac and cheese and dessert. Home delivery will be available from 3:30-4:30 p.m. People are asked to reserve a dinner by Tuesday, April 27, by calling 382-9653.
