Winwood elected to State Trade Association Board

Scott Winwood, President/CEO of First Choice America Community FCU in Weirton was elected on February 4 to represent District 1 on the West Virginia Credit Union League Board of Directors. District 1, which encompasses Brooke and Hancock Counties, is one of nine League Districts which holds director elections every three years. Each of the board members serve as volunteers and advise League management on the strategic direction of the League.

The League serves credit unions in a variety of capacities including legislative and regulatory advocacy, education and training, compliance assistance, and promoting credit union awareness.

"We are extremely pleased to have Scott join the board of directors of the West Virginia Credit Union League. His 23 years of credit union experience and his strong business background will be tremendous assets in helping set the course for West Virginia's credit unions going forward," stated League President, Ken Watts. "We look forward to his contributions to the League as he represents credit unions in District 1 on the board."

Winwood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and computer information systems from West Liberty State College. Winwood has been involved in financial institutions for nearly 37 years. He joined First Choice America in 1997 and served as Vice President of Finance until being named President in 2004. He is also a member of the Credit Union's Board of Directors. During his time at First Choice America, Winwood was awarded the WV Credit Union League Chapter Leadership Award and the WV Credit Union League William Brian Hawkins Award, both awards are presented to recipients for extraordinary volunteering, service and leadership skills. Winwood is a lifelong resident of Weirton, WV. He and his wife, Janet, have two children.

Founded in 1936, and headquartered in Parkersburg, the West Virginia Credit Union League is the trade association for the state's 86 not-for-profit credit unions, which serve the depository and lending needs of people from all walks of life. Credit Union deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) which is administered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government.
