City Hospital launches wound care program

2 min read

EAST LIVERPOOL -- East Liverpool City Hospital has implemented a comprehensive inpatient wound care program to maintain its award-winning care.

As part of the newly-developed program, Crystal Ulbright, wound care coordinator at the hospital, will oversee efforts aimed at prevention, early identification, treatment, and the promotion of wound healing.

"With shorter lengths of stay in the hospital, more emphasis is placed on care coordination that allows patients to continue the healing process upon being discharged," a release states. "Now, patients can expect to see a more collaborative effort between nursing staff and physicians that oversee their treatment."

Ulbright said "it truly takes commitment from all            disciplines for prevention efforts to be successful."

Chronic wounds, the release states, affect an average of 6.5 million Americans each year, and with multiple factors such as an aging population and a sharp rise in the incidence of obesity and diabetes, the demand for wound care is equally expected to skyrocket.

Ulbright, a release states, also will provide frequent training to keep staff informed on industry standards and best practices emerging in the wound care realm.

New to City Hospital, Ulbright brings a "unique blend of experience to the hospital's wound care program," the release continues.

A 2014 graduate of Kent State University's nursing program, Ulbright has obtained dual-certification in wound care and diabetic wounds through the Wound Care Education Institute.

"I am proud of the high quality of care our dedicated staff provide every day to prevent these injuries from occurring. We hope our efforts and timely interventions will promote more awareness in the community about the outstanding care that our hospital provides," said Jayne Rose, chief nursing officer.
