COLUMBIANA – Jon W. Rettig Sr. of Columbiana was recently elected president of the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors of Ohio. Rettig was appointed to the state board by Ohio Governor John R. Kasich on April 11, 2016.
Rettig is a graduate of Holgate High School in Holgate, Ohio, and then attended Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisc., majoring in business. He is a 1976 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in Cincinnati and earned certification to enucleate donor eyes in 1979 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. An Ohio licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1977, Rettig is president of Family Care Services Inc. which owns and operates the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia, Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana, Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home in East Palestine and Family Care Cremation Services in Columbiana. In 2014 he was certified as a certified crematory operator.
