Tractor Supply hosts ‘Purina Days’
CALCUTTA- Tractor Supply Company, state Route 170, will host local animal groups during an event June 11 to encourage pet adoptions and support families raising pets and livestock.
Local animal groups will set up at Tractor Supply as part of “Purina Days,” an in-store event June 8-19 that highlights pets and livestock and the tools needed to properly care for animals.
The main event will showcase live animals, expert advice and best-in-class products for raising a variety of animals, including domestic pets, as well as cattle, horses, rabbits and other livestock. The store will also host community groups and activities, including Pet Adoption with Alchemy Acres from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11.
“Our team members understand the commitment it takes to responsibly raise pets and livestock because we’ve done it and we want to share the lessons we’ve learned with the community,” said Tom Shontz, manager of the East Liverpool Tractor Supply store. “Whether you’re looking for a pet or you’re interested in keeping livestock as part of your family’s livelihood, our team members and community partners will give you advice you can trust.”
Program assists homeowners with home septic treatment systems
LISBON – Columbiana County Health Department will help qualifying homeowners address failing septic systems, using a $190,000 principal forgiveness loan through Ohio EPA’s Home Sewage Treatment System Repair and Replacement program.
Homeowners will be eligible to receive 100, 85, or a 50 percent share of in-principal forgiveness for the cost to repair or replace their failing home septic treatment systems through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF). The percentage is dependent on family household income levels.
This project will allow the repair or replacement of failing household septic treatment systems at an affordable cost, addressing potential health concerns and local water quality problems by eliminating much of the sewage discharged into area streams, such as Little Beaver Creek.
Created in 1989, the WPCLF provides below-market interest rate loans for communities to improve their wastewater treatment systems. Because this is a principal forgiveness loan, Columbiana County will save over $254,000 compared to a conventional, market-rate loan.
In addition to improvements to publicly-owned treatment works, WPCLF loans have been provided for agricultural best management practices, home sewage system improvements, landfill closures and water quality-based storm water projects.
