EAST LIVERPOOL – A new taxi cab company opened its doors overnight April 29, and the owners of City Cab, 1805 Lisbon St., said they expect to offer quick service around the clock.
Partners William Reynolds, Daniel Gallagher and Amber Gallagher joined forces at the hilltop location in Pleasant Heights after Reynolds’ research showed people feel the need for faster response time when they call for transportation.
Reynolds said of 100 people he polled, the majority said a second cab company in the city would be a good idea due to the wait time for getting a cab.
He said City Cab will try to offer a 15-minute window from the time its dispatcher receives a request until a cab arrives.
To help facilitate service to customers and also to promote not drinking and driving, Reynolds said City Cab drivers will also sit in their cabs at area shopping centers and bars with their lights on, “to make their presence known.”
Each of City Cabs’ four taxis will be uniform in color and design, with bright yellow bodies and black lettering. Reynolds said he hopes to double the number of taxi cabs as revenue increases.
Saying the city is “rigorous” in its licensing and background check procedures, Reynolds said each cab has been fully inspected and insured, with all drivers properly licensed and insured.
Fares can be arranged for anywhere a person wants to go, according to Reynolds, who said the average cost is 90 cents to $1 per mile.
As the business grows, he would like to install 360-degree cameras in each cab as a safety precaution for both drivers and customers.
“I have a lot of different ideas I want to do. I hope in 10 years, East Liverpool grows like Midland did,” Reynolds said.
City Cab is Reynolds’ second business venture, as he opened his own auto repair shop, Affordable Auto, at the same Lisbon Street location in August of last year, offering “pretty much everything” in the way of repairs.
Currently, new drivers are still being interviewed and those interested can apply at the cab company.
