Highway Patrol
-- Brooke Hughes, 18, West Fifth Street, Salem, was westbound on state Route 558 in Salem Township at 11:48 p.m. June 22, when she ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail on the north side of the road, then over corrected, crossed the center line and went off the left side, striking another guardrail on the south side of the road. Finally, she over corrected again, crossed the center line and struck the northbound guardrail again. She was checked for injuries, but was found not to be injured. Hughes was cited with failure to control.
Salem
-- A dog was reported running loose in the area of the 200 block of West Wilson Street at 6:32 p.m. Saturday. Police saw the dog running in an alley toward home and arrived about the time the residents let the dog in through the back door. A warning was issued.
-- Police warned a Franklin Street resident at 6:52 p.m. Saturday after bottle rockets were let off in the area. He agreed to cease.
-- A Kensington area woman reported at 7:22 p.m. Saturday someone she did not know was following her around Walmart and getting very close to her. The person left the store before police arrived. Police were unable to find the person and waited until the woman safely left the area.
-- An East School Street woman reported at 7:49 p.m. Saturday another woman carrying a large dog had come up onto her porch, doing something in her children's swimming pool. The woman was found across the street and attempted to walk away from police. She admitted to be under the influence of narcotics and was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT for evaluation. The dog was dropped off at a local shelter until it's owner could be found, which happened a short time later.
-- Police responded to a North Ellsworth Avenue home at 10:11 p.m. Saturday following a complaint of a party and fireworks. The homeowner was warned to stop the fireworks and keep the noise down.
-- Gerald E. Marsden, 49, Cleveland Street, was cited with disorderly conduct at 11:03 p.m. Saturday after police saw him urinating in a parking lot at the corner of Second Street and North Ellsworth Avenue. Marsden and all his acquaintances were intoxicated. One of the men, who was planning to drive, was told to call a cab to take all three of them home.
-- An East Sixth Street resident reported at 12:23 a.m. Sunday a dog had been taken from the residence. It was determined to be the dog a woman had been carrying around town earlier. The owner went to confirm it was dog and retrieve it.
-- A fight was reported in the 500 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 3:11 a.m. Sunday. Nobody would tell police who was the aggressor and conflicting stories were given. No one wanted to pursue charges and although the Salem Fire Department and KLG responded, both people refused medical treatment.
-- A burglary was reported in progress in a home in the 300 block of West Fourth Street at 3:58 a.m. Sunday. The resident met with police and said there was a man somewhere inside. Police checked the apartment, but did not find anyone.
-- A suspicious vehicle was reported parked in the 300 block of West State Street at 4:21 a.m. Sunday. The driver admitted he drank two alcoholic beverages. He was found to be minimally impaired and a courtesy transport was provided so he could get home safely.
-- Someone reported a woman running down Fair Avenue at 5 p.m. Saturday without pants. Police found she was wearing very short shorts. A friend of the woman agreed to keep her inside for the evening.
-- A wallet found along Penn Avenue was turned over to police at 4:40 p.m. Saturday. The driver's license inside had a Leetonia address and police contacted Leetonia police to see if they have a number for the owner. Leetonia was going to try to locate the person.
-- Police were unable to locate anyone at an East Third Street home at 4:17 p.m. Saturday after they were asked to check on them. Neighbors agreed to call police if they see him.
-- The owner of an East Fourth Street home reported at 2 p.m. Saturday it appeared someone had been squatting in the house.
-- A phone found in a restaurant in Columbiana appeared to belong to someone in Salem. Police were unable to contact a family member listed in the phone's contact list so the owner could be notified to pick it up at the Salem police department.
-- Police waited while the Salem Fire Department and EMT took care of a man needing medical assistance in the 300 block of West Fourth Street at 11:46 a.m. Saturday. He was transported to the hospital.
-- A resident of the 500 block of East School Street reported at 11:42 a.m. Saturday sometime during the previous evening someone threw an item from her yard into the roadway.
-- Smith Oil reported at 10:19 a.m. Saturday someone drove off without paying. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
-- In the parking lot of Get Go, East State Street, at 9:56 a.m. Saturday, Shaun Gleckner, 39, West Middletown Road, pulled into the parking lot and drove between a vehicle driven by Lynn A. Zocolo, state Route 344, and a semi truck. The trailer Gleckner was pulling struck the front bumper of the vehicle Zocolo was driving, which was owned by Ruth Varkonda. There was minor damage to the vehicles.
-- Tony Hardy, 53, Western Reserve Road, Salem, was northbound on South Lincoln Avenue at 3:35 p.m. Friday when Joseph Kosunick, 71, Eastview Drive, Salem, pulled from a stop sign at the intersection with Southeast Boulevard and into Hardy's path. Hardy struck Kosunick. KLG transported Kosunick and his passenger, Roberta Kosunick, 67, both to Salem Regional Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Kosunick was cited with a stop sign violation.
East Liverpool
--A Rigby Street man reported at 11:51 p.m. Tuesday someone has been messing around his home and he believes they broke out one of the first floor windows because there is a chunk of the window missing.
-- A Market Street woman reported at 1:24 a.m. Tuesday a man walked into her apartment, 308, but left when she told him to go. He then walked into apartment 310 and she knew he was not on the lease there either. Nobody answered the door at apartment 310.
-- An Oak Street woman reported at 11:09 p.m. Tuesday her husband became upset after they were awakened by the 1-year-old needing a bottle. He started screaming at the woman, who told him she was going to leave because she could not do this anymore. He then reportedly threatened to break her neck if she left and punched her in the left side of the face. She grabbed a 4-month-old child to keep him from hitting her further and called police. He fled out the basement door with her phone before police arrived. There were four children in the home between 4-months old and 8-years old.
-- A Lincoln Avenue woman reported at 3:12 a.m. Monday she wanted someone removed. A man was removed without any incident.
-- A Rigby Street man reported at 2:25 a.m. June 23 there were several people on his porch trying to get in and he did not want them there. Police saw a group of children running down Burton Street and they attempted to get into a vehicle. Police identified the children. One was taken home and the others were taken to the police department so their parents could pick them up. The parents were cited for parental responsibility.
-- A patient at East Liverpool City Hospital reported at 1:52 a.m. June 23 her boyfriend punched her in the nose and threw her out of a moving vehicle near West End Auto. She was being treated for minor injuries to her elbow and left arm. Although there was a protection order between them, she said they recently moved back in together in Wellsville. Police could not find him.
