Support FISH

Dear Editor: FISH has helped our community for many years. We now need the community’s support. FISH is an agency that ministers in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by providing food for the needy in our community. Every month between 1,500 and 2,000 people receive food from our pantry. We are supported by a variety of grants and gifts from churches, businesses, and individuals of our community. For many years now, we have not needed to appeal to the community at large because of generous donations from various sources. But, we are being overwhelmed by the ...

Not good for coal country

Dear Editor, Recently I read about a Houston, Texas-based company wanting to open a natural-gas-fired power plant in the Harrison County Industrial Park. While on the surface, this may seem like a good deal for the area, as you dig deeper and look at the large scale implications, this project will have a long-term negative impact on the region’s already beleaguered coal miners. While it is true that EmberClear will create initial construction jobs, I must emphasize that this facility will add only 30 permanent jobs into Harrison County. In addition, the coal industry, which ...

I’ll help them pack

Dear Editor: There is a distinction of branches called separation of power, that mean under article 1 which is the legislative branch. Which is defining as the house of representative and the senate is vested in congress of the United States. So the president’s executive orders that he’s making and regrading at law are an abuse of power and a direct violation to the constitution of these United States of America. This is an impeachable offense The president did not follow the rule of conduct of the constitution which protects the people with separation of power. Maybe ...

HCASF neuters feral cats

Dear Editor: At the Oct. 6 Hancock County commission meeting, a woman speaking in support of the animal shelter foundation mentioned me personally during her remarks. She spoke of me as the shelter’s neighbor farmer who “blasted a thousand doves out of the sky.” I should have been offended by being depicted as a heartless killer, but it struck me as funny. I’ve never shot a dove in my life, and the colorful way she phrased it, with the blasting and all, created a vivid mental image. I should add that mourning doves are classified as game birds and are perfectly legal to ...

Do away with Obamacare

Dear Editor: I am on Social Security and Medicare and just found out what the “donut hole” in Obamacare means. One of my 90-day supply of medications went from $180 to $414. What’s next? Obamacare needs changed to bring cost down and eliminate the extra hidden taxes it has. Clinton supports Obamacare and wants things to remain the same. Trump wants things to change, so it is up to the voters to decide what will happen come 2017. Charles Wade East Liverpool

Money taken from our pockets

Dear Editor: I oppose the income tax rate increase. The water and sewer rates have already recently increased. The new labor contract for the City’s Sewer, Street, Water and Trash department includes a new section which will reopen the contract for increased wage negotiations if the city income tax revenue goes up more than 25 percent, which would probably happen if the income tax is increased. According to the U.S. Census web site, the 2010-14 East Liverpool household income was under $27,000 a year. Here is what the yearly salary and benefits were in 2003 for some of ...
