In support of Johnson as next YSU president

To the editor: It was not all that long ago that many of the same critics that are now decrying the selection of Congressman Bill Johnson as the next president of Youngstown State University were doing the same with the selection of former Ohio State Head Football Coach Jim Tressel. As it turned out, their objections and prognostications were nothing more than unfounded, liberal blather. The initial objections raised against Jim Tressel had nothing to do with his core capabilities nor his personal and professional qualifications. Clearly, Tressel turned out to be one of the most ...

Support for Beaver Local renewal levy

To the editor: Voters in the Beaver Local School District will see a renewal levy on the Nov 7 ballot that is critical to maintaining current programs and operations. It does not increase taxes. The 3.35-mill emergency operating levy would generate $1.2 million annually for five years. These funds are used for day-to-day operations, including transportation, personnel, utilities and supplies. Without these monies, the district would need to make drastic changes, including reductions in programs and staffing. Supporting your local schools is a worthy investment that builds strong ...

These three gentlemen are the trifecta of dedication, passion, and classic unselfishness that I have rarely found in any other community that I have dealt with in my travels. Mayor Bricker, in particular, has provided the leadership, intellect, and energy necessary to ...

Vote “No!” on Issue One

To the editor: The vote on Nov. 7 is one we must be informed about. Please read what this vote proposes. If enacted Issue One will make abortion legal up to the moment of birth. Please vote “no” — this is about life or death for children. The people and babies in our great state deserve better than this foul legislation. For the children’s sake and our sake as people vote “No!” WILLIAM OLIVER, East Liverpool

Ohioans could see lower heating bills

To the editor: As we prepare to embrace the colder months, it brings me great pleasure to inform my fellow Ohioans that we can look forward to lower energy bills this winter, thanks to the affordable, essential natural energy produced right here in our great state. The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released their ‘Winter Fuels Outlook’, it predicts that U.S. Households will see a drop in their energy costs this winter. The use of natural gas, in particular, has significantly contributed to reducing energy costs for households across our state and country. Approximately ...
